Description

The Central Subway Construction projects add 1.7 miles underground to the existing San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency’s Light Rail System. The project includes construction of 3 underground stations, 1 surface station, surface tracks, underground trackwork, switches, controls and all systems. Smith-Emery is currently performing all contract-required Special Inspections and Materials Testing on the stations, tracks and systems. Smith-Emery also performed geotechnical investigations and subsurface exploration at the locations of proposed slurry walls for the underground Moscone/Yerba Buena Station. Over the course of this large and complicated project our inspection duties have included, but were not limited to, shoring and excavation support, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, mass concrete, standard shotcrete, tunnel lining arched shotcrete, structural steel and welding, rail welding, backfill compaction, and roadway grading and resurfacing.
