Contra Costa Water District Shortcut Pipeline
Martinez, California

Description

The project focused on refurbishments to a five-mile pipeline constructed in the 1970s to bypass the loop canal and deliver water to the City of Martinez, Shell Refinery and several other industrial customers. Upgrades to the Contra Costa Water District’s Shortcut Pipeline were made to ensure reliable long-term water supply. The improvements include new gravel roads for better access; replacement of critical isolation valves, air release valves, and blow-off assemblies; new slide gate between the pipeline and canal; and worker safety features. Smith-Emery provided field testing, inspection and laboratory testing for materials.
